« Forêt Surprise »

In my work “Forêt Surprise” for “Natures Urbaines” at Fontenay near Paris I looked at the City Hall park with the eyes of a child. I covered the natural color of the tree trunks (green, gray, not truly brown) with terra di siena pigment. They took on a different look – new and rounder. Children use this red-brown color when they want to paint trees. The trees form new spaces in the park and turn into art objects. The pigment is based on lime and has the added advantage that it protects the park tree from the burning sun and pests. The red-brown of the terra di Siena changes our everyday visual experience. The city inhabitants are prompted to see a tree with fresh eyes.

In meiner Arbeit „Forêt Surprise“ für „Natures Urbaines“ in Fontenay bei Paris 2002, habe ich den Park des Hôtel de Ville mit Kinderblick betrachtet. Die natürliche Farbe der Baumstämme (grün, grau nie richtig braun) wird durch die Farbe der Terra di Siena verborgen. Sie wirken anders, neu und runder. Kinder benutzten diese rotbraune Farbe, wenn sie Bäume malen wollen. Die Bäume bilden neue Räume im Park und werden zu Kunstobjekten. Die auf Kalk basierende Farbe schützt zusätzlich den Parkbaum vor Verbrennungen durch Sonne und vor Schädlingen. Die rotbraune Farbe der Terra di Siena ändert die alltägliche Seherfahrung. So sind die Bürger der Stadt aufgefordert, wieder mit frischem und jungem Blick den Baum neu zu sehen.
